Task for 13A - Period 4 Tuesday
Today, you are going to research the greenhouse effect and global warming. As carbon and they way it is cycled throughout nature is a very important aspect of this unit, it's important that you also understand how levels of carbon in the atmosphere can impact the environment.
The aim of today's lesson is to produce a small report on the how carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are having an effect on the Earth's climate. The report should only be about 3-4 pages long and be structured into the following sections:
In order to complete the report, you should use your textbook (section 6.2) as the main reference, but also reinforce your work with diagrams, photos and graphs from the internet. Remember to source any information/figures that you collect from the internet.

- Introduction
- The Greenhouse Effect
- Greenhouse Gases
- Global Warming
- Consequences of Global Warming
- Summary
In order to complete the report, you should use your textbook (section 6.2) as the main reference, but also reinforce your work with diagrams, photos and graphs from the internet. Remember to source any information/figures that you collect from the internet.
Tips:
- Talk about both the natural and man-made greenhouse effects. Greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide have a bad reputation, but to eradicate them fully would mean that life of Earth would actually not exist.
- Be subjective and straight to the point. Try to form a link between the levels of greenhouse gases and the increase in global temperatures. The best reports will have stronger links between the two.
- Don't be biased. Remember that no-one can actually prove that increasing levels of carbon dioxide are actually causing global temperatures to rise. You've just got to be really good at arguing that there's probably a link.
- The most marks will be gained from the last section - 'Consequences of Global Warming.' This is where you need to explain the long-term effects of climate change and the effects on the environment and living things.
